ITA-IPL and PTAN Introduction
ITA-IPL and PTAN have extended their operations by collaborating with each other. The main purpose of this initiative is to develop professional teacher network and linkages among teachers, educators and educational institutes.
PTAN
The Professional Teacher Association Network (PTAN) is a cluster of nine voluntary professional associations. Its focus is continued self-directed professional development of teachers/head teachers in Pakistan. PTAN was formed in mid 2002, with a generous support from The Aga Khan University -Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) and Aga Khan Foundation, Pakistan (AKF, P).
PTAN has formed 9 professional associations to date. All 9 associations have their origins in a need driven demand for continuous professional development of teachers and head teachers.
ITA
Idara-Taleem-o-Aagahi started working in 1999. The work of the institution includes but is not limited to education reforms, capacity building of teachers, institutional strengthening, vulnerable, vocational training. It is a long journey of continuous struggle.
IPL
Institute for Professional Learning has been created to offer Pre-service, In-service and Certification e on Teacher and Leadership Education through graduate and post graduate degrees, certificate programs and diplomas, both within and outside the country.
COLLABORATION
Professional Teachers Association Network (PTAN) has formally been launched in Punjab. It is collaboration between PTAN at AKU-IED and Institute for Professional Learning (IPL) at Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA). This was the outcome of a daylong session held jointly by the two participating organizations PTAN /AKU-IED and ITA/IPL in Lahore on December 9, 2009.
PTAN will be implemented in Punjab through a phased two pronged concurrent process
Phase I:
January – April 2010: The first three associations to be launched with workshops are:
a) Early Years Learning Association (EYLA)
b) Science Association of Pakistan (SAP)
c) Association for Social Studies Educators & Teachers (ASSET)
Phase II:
August 2010: the next three associations to be launched with workshops are:
d) Pakistan Association for Inclusive Education (PAIE)
e) Mathematics Association of Pakistan (MAP)
f) Health Education Association for Learners & Teacher
