Training Sessions at IPL

Sanjan Nagar HSS Hosting Teaching Practice of B.Ed Hons: students of Institute for Professional Leaning:

Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust Girls Higher Secondary School-Evening Shift is hosting Teaching Practice of B.Ed Hons Students of Institute for Professional Learning. They will practice for two weeks and teach at least 20 lessons per week. They are teaching primary years students and implementing innovative techniques/ ideas. Their methods of teaching are based on basic activity based learning, Inquiry methods and integrating central ideas with other concepts and lesson. All students made their daily lesson plans subject-wise and grade-wise with objectives (specific, general), methodologies, assessment (pre and post) and resources. The class teacher and a supervisor from Institute for Professional Learning will supervise the lesson delivery. Hopefully they will complete their practice and learn various skills for becoming future teachers.

On July 12, 2011 in IPL two films by Umar Riaz were screened back to back at 10:30 pm

First Movie: "The Flight"
Second Movie: "Last Remarks’"

Last Remarks 'Last Remarks' was preceded by 'The Flight', a short documentary by Umar chronicling retired Air Marshal Zafar Chaudhry's return to flying after 30 years. There was a brief Q&A with the filmmaker after both films. Last Remarks' is a short narrative film by Umar Riaz. An Urdu adaptation of an Edgar Allen Poe story, the film follows Arastu Jan - butler to an English master at the time of Partition - who finds himself with ten minutes to make the confession of his brief lifetime.

About Resource Person:
Umar Riaz  was born and raised in Lahore. He completed his undergraduate degree in English Literature and Cinema Studies from New York University in 2009.He was accepted into the Graduate Film Program at  NYU's Tisch School of the Arts whose notable alumni include Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Oliver Stone, Ang Lee, Jim Jarmusch, Todd Solondz, Amy Heckerling and others.

There was a brief Q&A with the filmmaker after both films.

Miss. Ismat Riaz conducted a four hour long session on social studies pedagogy and Muslim Society on 11th July, 2011 with all IPL faculty members and B.ED Hons. Students.

The session was focused on 'to assist teachers and students deal with a newly designed and profoundly loaded course outline of Social studies’. The session met with the expectations and all students and faculty were fully satisfied at the end and all were enthralled by the experience of learning Social studies and how it should be taught in such a creative way of training through documentary films and songs Miss. Ismat Riaz so kindly prepared some notes for IPL course participants which will help them prepare for their exams and she also shared a detailed power point presentation which was covering whole of the syllabus in one go…

The training aim was to develop a team spirit among the participants. The participants included students and the faculty of IPL. The session focused on team building while working in an institute or organization.
